The No Side says that the Guarantees are not worth the paper they are written on. The is simply NOT TRUE.
The "Guarantees" ensure that within the Lisbon Treaty:
- There is NO threat to the Irish constitutional and legal framework on the issue of abortion, ensuring that any and all decisions on this are a matter for the Irish people only;
- There is NO threat to the Irish policy of non-alignment and prerogative of neutrality;
- There is NO threat to the Irish Corporate Tax Rate.
The Guarantees are legally binding. They have been agreed by 27 countries, have been lodged with the United Nations and are under the same automatic process that was used for the Danish in the early nineties.
