Eimear Farrell, of Women for Europe spoke to a group of women with disabilities in the Dun Laoghaire area on Tuesday 29 September.  This event was organised by well known local disability rights activist, Mary Collins.  The women were interested to hear about several provisions in the Treaty that are positive from a disability perspective, such as the inclusion of the Charter of Fundamental Rights, the introduction of a European Citizen's Initiative and the incorporation of a cross-cutting social clause.  Eimear explained that the open method of coordination between Member States is expressly included in Article 140 of the Treaty and covers a number of areas that are relevant to disabled people such as employment, social protection, educations and public health.
